Landlord signed lease agreement then an hour later sent a new one
Hello. I live in Minnesota. My lease ends in September. Last month my roommate and I signed our new lease agreement. Today I finally get an email saying the landlord has also signed it and I was sent a copy of the lease with everyone’s signature.
An hour and a half later I get an email notification from the landlord to sign the lease again but the rent is higher on this “new” agreement and they also slightly changed their company name. No this is not a phishing email, this is an actual new lease they want me to sign to charge more.
Are they allowed to do this since we all already signed the lease for the next year that starts in September. Or since they apparently changed their company name are they allowed to do this.
The new lease states I have until July 1st to agree to the terms. They actually did this back last month too, gave us very little time to agree to the new terms, how are they allowed to up the rent and give me less than a week to decide on the new amount?
I want to add my roommate also go the email to sign this new one.
EDIT: Homeline contacted me this morning and was extremely helpful. They went through my lease throughly the first one they sent me is legal and binding, They are also violating their own terms of the lease with the lack of notice given.
